Capability Statement

When things go wrong you need the best advice and support. Our experience ensures that we can assist businesses every day to deal with health, safety and environmental issues.

In the immediate aftermath of an accident or incident it is important for businesses to understand the investigation process and what they need to do, especially when dealing with regulators such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or the Environment Agency.

We can provide support and advice following a major incident. In addition to our incident response services we also work with clients to avoid accidents and reduce the risk of incidents occurring.

Below is a selection of projects which our consultants have undertaken for clients.

Waste sector experience
Waste Sector

Advising a waste company following a fatal accident during construction work and dealing with the HSE investigation. Implementation of a health and safety management system and successful certification to OHSAS 18001 standard at a waste recycling company. Advising a waste company on development of a fire safety plan following major fire incident.

Modification of an environmental permit to comply with new waste activities on site. Producing a Fire Prevention Plan (FPP) for a waste client following changes to national Environment Agency guidance.

Liaising with the Environment Agency on behalf of a waste client served with enforcement notice. Preparation and submission of a consultation document on waste exemptions legislation with a focus on novel technologies, such as aerobic waste digestion, to the European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law (IMPEL).

Engineering Sector

Advising a steel engineering company in relation to health and safety documentation including the development of a policy, risk assessments and work instructions. Advising on the controls required for the use of hand tools in respect of HAV.

Financial Services Sector

Providing advice to a financial services client on the development of health and safety risk assessments, employee safety training and lone working procedures.

Education Sector

Auditing schools and academies in respect of health and safety arrangements and providing advice on improvements. Presenting to trustees and governors on the results of audits and recommendations to reduce risk.  Investigating and reviewing accidents and incidents as well as advising on preventative measures.

Construction Sector 

Development of a health and safety policy and risk assessments for a plant hire operator. Advising a building company following a fall from height accident and the requirements of CDM.  Providing expert witness evidence in relation to alleged safety breaches at a construction site for a client involved in arbitration proceedings.

Transport Sector

Worked with one of the UK’s largest distribution companies to develop a compliance system for their depots. The company which covers over 30 million miles each year were seeking to implement a compliance system which identified the key legislation applicable to their operations and the procedures in place to ensure compliance.  As the company dealt with a variety of UK regulators, it was important to ensure that any compliance system encompassed all areas.  Developed a database of legislation and cross referenced the internal procedures which the company adopted to ensure they complied with legislative requirements.

Energy Sector

Experience advising a contractor following a serious accident at an energy facility and dealing with HSE during the investigation process.

Food & Drink Manufacturing Sector

In preparation for the introduction of a major new European regulation on food safety, worked with a global information services organisation to develop a training programme for food manufacturing companies. Reviewed the new legislation identifying the changes required by UK food companies and developed a bespoke training course.

Delivered the training to a variety of food manufacturers and packers across the UK improving staff knowledge of the imminent changes and assisting companies to remain compliant with food safety law. Experience in providing both in-house and public course content.

Worked with a global beverage manufacturer with over 3,000 employees developing and delivering a bespoke environmental regulation course to support the client’s introduction of an environmental management system to ISO 14001 standard. Editor in chief of the food legislation application, The Lawman, which provides a database of food safety legislation to sector clients.

Pharmaceutical Sector

Advising a pharmacy on the pharmacist attendance requirements and related regulatory issues following a General Pharmaceutical Council audit.
