Environment Agency to Prioritise Permits

Posted on 26th August, 2020

The Environment Agency is contacting waste operators regarding a delay to the scheduled review of environmental permits for certain sectors. The Agency has decided to concentrate its resources on the permit applications backlog rather than reviews.

The Agency announced that due to the impacts of Covid-19, they are experiencing a significant backlog in permitting work which includes applications made by operators for proposed new or expanded operations. In order to enable the country to restart, aid economic recovery and support green renewal, the Agency has decided to focus its resource on this permitting work. Work to review permits will recommence as soon as possible and the Agency will make further announcements in due course to keep waste operators updated on the situation.

If any waste operators wish to discuss their permit further they should contact their sector lead within the Environment Agency or email WasteRegExecSupport@environment-agency.gov.uk
